The Indy Winds Flute Choir is hosting an exciting event next month, and we’re helping to get the word out! We are so lucky to have such a unique and fun group here in Indianapolis to cultivate flute playing and enjoyment at all playing levels. On Sunday, March 3rd, they are hosting an event with special guest flutist John Ross for an afternoon of flute choir music and beatbox flute!

Flutist John Ross is an accomplished soloist, educator, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. He has served on the music faculty of West Virginia State University and teaches in the summers for Music for the Sake of Music in Green Bay, WI and Sparrow Music Camp in High Springs, FL. Dr. Ross has been principal flute of the orchestra for MFSOM, the Italian-American Opera Festival Orchestra (CA), the Charleston Chamber Orchestra (WV), and has also performed with the Muncie Symphony, Tallahassee Symphony, and the Charleston Light Opera Guild. His flute ensemble Silver Lining Flutes toured around Costa Rica in Spring 2017, performing and giving masterclasses as part of the Promising Artists of the 21st Century series. Dr. Ross attended West Virginia University, Ball State University, and Florida State University, studying with Joyce Catalfano, Thomas Godfrey, Francesca Arnone, Mihoko Watanabe, and Eva Amsler. He is also an Andover Educator in training, pursuing a certification in body mapping.

The Indy Winds Flute Choir is a 30 piece flute orchestra, comprised of all ages and levels in Indianapolis. We believe that every musician deserves a place to play, and our inclusive membership policy means that all are welcome, regardless of age, experience, or audition level. Salon style concerts are presented year round, under the direction of conductor Laura Recendez and assistant director Mary Sue McAlister. Our emphasis on camaraderie and community means that our concerts are fun and welcoming for everyone. Our relationships last beyond rehearsals, contributing to our happiness and well being, just as music should!

This 90 minute session will begin with a short flute choir reading, after which Dr. Ross will present his beatbox flute workshop. Music will be provided at the start of the session. Please bring your own music stand. The cost for this event is $10, payable to the Indy Winds Flute Choir. Please RSVP to iwflutechoir@gmail.com with your name and flutes owned or preferred (piccolo, c flute, alto etc). The cost is $10. Being a snack to share for after if you like!
