Seeing school students try out their new instruments, progress in their programs, and upgrade to an instrument that really helps them shine is one of my favorite parts of what I do here at the Indy Flute Shop. But I also love meeting adults of all ages who are just wanting to get started on an instrument, or re-start their flute playing after putting it away for years! It is always so much fun to learn the backgrounds of these players and hear how they are wanting to start a “grown-up” hobby of their own now.
So the question is–where should I begin?? I highly encourage adult students, whether it is their first time learning an instrument at all, or one who has played in the past, to highly consider a flute from the Indy Flute Shop, as opposed to a true beginner’s instrument. As I highlighted in my first vlog a few weeks back, beginner flutes are built for durability–not necessarily the greatest sound quality. Adults tend to be a bit more careful with their instruments, so an instrument with a better sound quality is definitely a feasible option. Adults also tend to have a better musical discerning ear, and a student flute would certainly not be as satisfying to play. Always remember that the step-up flutes in the IFS are available for our rent-to-own option. Call or email Erin with any questions!
