BOA Grand Nationals this past weekend was a time of celebration, and unfortunately also a time of great tragedy. Castle High School student performer Sophie Rinehart, along with two members of her family, were killed in a car accident on their way home to Newburgh, just outside of Evansville, on Saturday night. A third family member was hospitalized.

Sophie was a featured soloist for Castle High School’s show, both as a vocalist and a flute player. In their official statement, Bands of America said,
“So many of us were moved by her performances at Grand Nationals, including last night’s Finals performance. It is a heartbreaking loss. Today, all of us are Castle Marching Knights. May her family, friends, and the Castle band family find peace.”

I was so incredibly moved when I watched Castle’s show and heard Sophie perform. There are simply no words for such a tragedy.
