Here at the Indy Flute Shop, we have the pleasure of hosting some incredible artists and getting to know them a little better. One of our most frequent visitors, lucky for us, has been the wonderfully talented Mimi Stillman. Mimi is an absolute joy to meet, and to hear her perform is truly amazing.

Mimi Stillman is one of the most highly regarded flutists in the concert world today. “A magically gifted flutist, a breath of fresh air”, wrote The Washington Post of her acclaimed recital at the Kennedy Center. “A seasoned artist of spirited, unbridled virtuosity”, according to the New York Concert Review. “Technically agile and imaginative in her use of color”, said The New York Times. “A ball of fire in person and on the stage”, raved The Alexandria Journal. And those are just a few of the rave reviews that she frequently receives. Amazingly enough, she was the youngest wind player ever admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with Julius Baker and Jeffrey Khaner and received her Bachelor of Music degree in 1999. That same year she became the youngest wind player ever to win the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. Mimi also holds an MA in history from the University of Pennsylvania and is a published author on music and history.

Mimi is a teacher and performer in high demand at events such as the National Flute Association convention and conservatories and flute events throughout the world. I had the pleasure of hearing her speak and perform at NFA in DC this year, as well as hosting the clinic she put on here at Paige’s earlier this year.
