Are you heading up to Fort Wayne for the 2017 IMEA convention? Here are a few highlights of this year’s schedule, geared towards flute players, instrumentalists in general, or things that just sound really cool!

Pre-Conference: Meaningful Movement: Dalcroze Eurythmics for All
Courtyard Legacy Ballroom
11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
This experiential workshop will be offer movement activities for introductory, beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of K-12 students for both the general music and ensemble classrooms. Rooted in the philosophy of Jaques-Dalcroze, students will increase concentration, rhythmic integrity, expressivity, and social interaction. This workshop will also address rhythmic solfège, piano improvisation, and assessment for expressive movement. Teachers will be able to view videos of students in action, and discuss the benefits and challenges of creating a culture of movement in their practice.

Getting Started with the New SmartMusic
Courtyard Foster
1:00 PM – 1:50 PM
SmartMusic is now web based and can now be accessed from mobile devices. The New SmartMusic continues the tradition of great practice and assessment features while greatly expanding access for students and parents.

Performance: West Lafayette High School Wind Ensemble
Conference C
4:30 PM – 5:20 PM
West Lafayette High School Bands, led by Don Pettit, has enjoyed extraordinary growth in the past few years. Their performance is sure to be outstanding!
