My, my, my, how time flies when you’re having fun! The Indy Flute Shop is celebrating 8 years this month of helping the Midwest’s finest flutists find their perfect instrument and accessories! As many of you know, I have only been here for just over 3 years, but I have had such a blast meeting new people, growing the business, and learning so much! This year has been a whirlwind–here are some of the highlights:

Last August, I attending the National Flute Association annual convention in Washington, D.C. I was able to visit with performing artists (including the lovely Mimi Stillman!), attend talks about the history of flutes and piccolos, and I even got to meet Sir James Galway! This convention had quite a focus on the “whole” musician, meaning the connections between body and music making, which is a very big interest of mine. This year’s convention is coming up in just a couple of months and is in sunny southern California, so I am sure to have lots more adventures!

In September, I visited Logansport schools, and in January 2016 I returned north to Ft. Wayne for the annual Indiana Music Educator’s convention. Jim Walker of Burkart Flutes was gracious enough to spend some time at the Paige’s Music booth, and he awed students of all ages with his stories and impromptu performances of popular movie tunes that he collaborated on.

Finally, I would be remiss not to mention that my husband and I celebrate the exact same anniversary as the IFS–we were married in June 2008! Best wishes to all of you, and here’s to many more. Cheers!
