This week, I wanted to take the time to tell you a little about myself–my background, education, and how I came to be the manager of the greatest little flute shop in the Midwest! I was born and raised in Lafayette, about an hour north of Indianapolis. I started playing flute when I was in fourth grade, which was a bit of a challenge due to my small size! I graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School (Go Bronchos!) in 2003, and while I was there I was very involved in the music department. I often speak for many people when I say that my music teachers were a huge influence and inspiration in my life!
I received my B.S. in Psychology from the University of Evansville in 2007, and while I was there I pursued lessons and was the principal flautist in the Wind Ensemble and the orchestra. I then decided that music really was what I wanted to do with my life, and I pursued a dual teaching certification and Masters of Music in Music Education from Butler University, graduating in May of 2013. While I was finishing that degree, I began working at the Indy Flute Shop in March of 2013. I also hold a small private flute studio and teach at area schools. Though some might say my route to where I am has been a bit circuitous, I couldn’t be happier doing what I am doing with my life!
